Why have a site to support Virginians in Advance Care Planning and Advance Directives?
Easy – Because you matter!
Every person has the right to the care they want, no more and no less.
Virginia law guarantees this for everyone through the Health Care Decisions Act, which was originally adopted in 1992 with notable changes by the Virginia General Assembly in 2009 to include new provisions for mental health advance directives. This website is currently funded by a grant from Virginia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, Office of Recovery Services to Honoring Choices Virginia, a 501c3 nonprofit serving the Commonwealth of Virginia in advance care planning.
Site content creation has been supported by many community partners since its creation in 2016 alongside many individual ACP champions. Site maintenance and technical support is provided by Honoring Choices Virginia.
